Nice, Queer, and Unwritten: A Bold Exhibition Reclaims a Hidden History

To mark the 18th edition of the In&Out Nice Queer Film Festival, Mémoire manquante: Archives LGBTQIA+ de la Côte d’Azur and Les Ouvreures are joining forces to present a landmark exhibition, “Nice Queer: A History Yet to Be Written.”

Running from April 10 to May 3, 2026, at 109 – Pôle de Cultures contemporaines, the exhibition arrives with the valued support of the City of Nice’s Department of Artistic Creation.

At its heart is a striking and deeply moving poster by artist Maxime Parodi, whose work has long captured the spirit and complexity of queer identity.

The piece brings together an extraordinary constellation of figures who have shaped LGBTQIA+ history and culture, including Magnus Hirschfeld, Suzy Solidor, Jean-Luc Verna, Jean Cocteau, Jean Marais, Marie-Paule Belle, Santa, as well as beloved local icons Miss Koka and Cathy Café.

Together, they form not just a tribute, but a powerful reminder: queer history in Nice is rich, vibrant—and still waiting to be fully told.
