Île du Levant: France’s Hidden Paradise for Naturists and Nature Lovers

Situated off the coast of the French Riviera, Île du Levant is one of the Mediterranean’s most fascinating—and least conventional—islands. Part of the Hyères archipelago in the Var department, this lush, sun-drenched paradise is a unique blend of untamed natural beauty, free-spirited living, and a long-standing commitment to naturism. For those seeking a vacation spot unlike any other—or even considering a real estate investment far removed from the hustle of mainland life—Île du Levant offers something truly singular.

A Sanctuary for Naturism and Tranquility

What sets Île du Levant apart is its status as one of the world's first and most iconic naturist destinations. Since the 1930s, when the Durville brothers established Héliopolis—the first European naturist village—the island has attracted open-minded travelers from around the world. Here, nudity is not only accepted but woven into the rhythm of everyday life, particularly in the village and along the dedicated Plage des Grottes (Caves Beach), where clothing is optional and the sea is crystal-clear.

Unlike other naturist locales that may feel commercialized, Île du Levant maintains a strong sense of authenticity. The community is small, tight-knit, and focused on a respectful, nature-oriented lifestyle. Cars are nearly non-existent, replaced by winding footpaths that crisscross pine forests, Mediterranean scrubland, and dramatic cliffs. The island’s motto, “Vivre au soleil”“Live in the sun”—perfectly captures the spirit of this haven.

Real Estate: A Rare and Peaceful Investment

Given its strict development laws and protected environment, real estate on Île du Levant is both limited and highly sought-after. Most properties are charming, modest villas or cottages surrounded by nature, often with sea views or direct access to walking trails and secluded spots. The architectural style here reflects the island’s ethos: simple, sustainable, and in harmony with the landscape.

For those interested in buying property, it’s not just about acquiring a home—it’s about embracing an alternative way of life. Owners become part of a tight community that values environmental preservation, personal freedom, and slow living. Because the supply of available homes is so limited, values tend to be stable, and properties are often passed down through generations or sold discreetly within naturist networks.

A Place Like No Other

Despite being just a short ferry ride from Le Lavandou, Île du Levant feels like a world apart. It’s a destination that encourages disconnection from modern pressures and reconnection with nature—and oneself. Whether you're sunbathing nude on a rocky cove, enjoying a glass of rosé at a local terrace, or exploring the trails through the Domaine des Arbousiers, the island offers a deep sense of freedom and serenity.

For travelers and prospective homeowners seeking something more offbeat, more serene, and more attuned to nature and the human body, Île du Levant is a rare gem on the Côte d’Azur—where the sun, the sea, and the skin are all equally celebrated.

Monaco Pride Turns 4: A Night of Unity, Visibility, and the Call for Equality

On Thursday night, Monaco’s Port came alive with celebration as Monaco Pride marked its 4th anniversary at Marius Monaco. Nearly 200 attendees—spanning government officials, business leaders, association members, and the LGBTI community—gathered to honor progress and push for change in the Principality.

The evening featured powerful speeches from Monaco Pride co-founders Lorenzo Turco, Hervé Aeschbach, and Annette Anderson, as well as Gaelle Migani, COO of Barclays Private Bank Monaco, and Anaïs Berruti, co-founder of the association MonArcEnCiel.

Monaco Pride was founded in 2021 to highlight the LGBTI community’s contributions to Monaco and to spark conversation around the civil rights gap many face. As Lorenzo Turco emphasized, thousands of LGBTI individuals who live and work in Monaco remain without basic protections, such as recognition of same-sex marriages, adoption rights, and access to spousal benefits. Currently, Monaco ranks 43rd out of 49 countries on the Rainbow Map, a European index measuring LGBTI rights.

Co-founder Annette Anderson passionately urged the community not to stay silent out of fear, quoting Barack Obama: “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” Her message was echoed by Hervé Aeschbach, the former director of Fight Aids Monaco who called on the crowd to “make some noise” for equal rights.

Anaïs Berruti reflected on MonArcEnCiel’s first year, noting the association’s growing momentum and its mission to establish a real, constructive dialogue with decision-makers. “It’s time to move things forward—together,” she said. The Association is currently recruiting new members and sponsors.

Barclays continues to stand out as a corporate ally, with Gaelle Migani and Ben Hood reaffirming the bank’s commitment to inclusion and diversity. To celebrate Monaco Pride, Barclays illuminated its building on Avenue de la Costa in rainbow colors.

The evening also included live music performances by Fat Cat Hackett and the Diva Darlings, as well as a vibrant networking atmosphere that left participants inspired and connected.

Special thanks were extended to everyone involved—especially Marius Monaco for generously hosting the event space.

Monaco Pride may be young, but it’s growing stronger each year—amplifying voices, building bridges, and demanding equal recognition for all.
